BRITISH POWERBOAT FESTIVAL SECURES WORLDWIDE TV DEAL
The UIM BPRC Marathon World Cup races at next weekend’s British Powerboat Festival, powered by RB12.com, will be available to over 500 million households following a landmark agreement between the event organisers, the BPRC (British Powerboat Racing Club) and Isle of Man-based production company, Greenlight Television.
The August Bank Holiday event features two marathon races including, on Sunday 29th, the Cowes Torquay Cowes, one of the most demanding endurance challenges in world powerboating. More than 30 boats from across Europe have entered, guaranteeing spectacular and closely contested race action. “Through the use of land-based, aerial and on-board cameras, we expect the final programme to provide a breathtaking insight into the drama and skill involved in powerboat racing,” explains Race Director John Moore. ”The worldwide distribution includes a one hour show that will appear in Italy and on Sky Sports in the UK.”
The Cowes Torquay Cowes - celebrating its 50th anniversary this year - is among the oldest sporting events in Britain and one of the UK’s only surviving motorsport endurance classics.
The Festival begins on Thursday 26th August with the RB12.com Race Village open from 9am.
BRITISH POWERBOAT FESTIVAL TIMED TO PERFECTION
The British Powerboat Festival taking place over the August Bank Holiday has been further boosted by the news that Edox, the Swiss watch manufacture established in 1884, has become the ‘Official Timing Partner’ of the event.
“Edox has a strong marine heritage and we are delighted to welcome such a well-respected global brand,” explains Hugo Ambrose, Director, RB12.com, promoters of the Festival.
The manufacturer will also present two specially engraved Edox time pieces to the winning boat in the Festival’s flagship race, the 2010 Cowes Torquay Cowes, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
COWES GEARING UP FOR NEW LOOK POWERBOAT FESTIVAL
2010 British Powerboat Festival sponsors RB12.com – promoters of the Round Britain Land, Sea and Air Race 2012 – have introduced a packed programme of family entertainment for the Bank Holiday weekend, including the Red Arrows and a Lynx helicopter display from the Royal Navy.
The Festival – one of the most keenly contested competitions in world motorsport – this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of one of its headline races, the Cowes Torquay Cowes and for both the attending public and international fleet of race boats and crew, the Cowes Yacht Haven will be a hub of activity throughout.
Street entertainment, live music, a food court, stalls and displays will provide an exciting array of off-water highlights for the crowds, which will culminate in spectacular Red Arrows fly-overs on Thursday 26th, Friday 27th and Sunday 29th – the day of the landmark Cowes Torquay Cowes race.
Red Jet high speed ferries are supporting the event with special family tickets available at £26 for adult and child groups of up to four.
“It is our aim to bring even more entertainment to the British Powerboat Festival and to make it a must-visit Bank Holiday attraction,” explains Hugo Ambrose, Director, RB12.com. “It is already a major sporting event and we believe this year’s additions will make it bigger and even better.”
LAND, SEA AND AIR ENTERTAINMENT - EVERYONE WELCOME
The 2010 British Powerboat Festival taking place on the Isle of Wight over the August Bank Holiday weekend will feature the 50th anniversary of one of the world’s great endurance events, the Cowes Torquay Cowes, with an international line-up of powerboats competing for glory. The fast and furious race action will be supported by off-water entertainment provided by the Festival’s title sponsor, RB12.com.
The action starts on Thursday 26th August and ends with a spectacular firework finale above the Cowes Yacht Haven on the 29th. Over 50 boats will take to the waves during the four-day event complimented by a Lynx helicopter display from the Royal Navy, street entertainment, live music, simulator and roadshow from the events charity, the RNLI.
As part of its three-year sponsorship, Lymington-based RB12.com, the promoters of the 2012 Round Britain Land, Sea and Air event intend to transform the British Powerboat Festival into one of the UK’s top sporting attractions.
“This is a landmark event and we want the occasion to be memorable for everyone,” explains Hugo Ambrose, Director, RB12.com. “Powerboating is action- packed excitement and with so much else happening over the weekend we hope to attract families as well as motorsport enthusiasts to the Yacht Haven where much of the entertainment takes place. As we build to the 2012 Round Britain race, it is important to increase the value of the sport and where better to start than Cowes, the home of world powerboating.”
The involvement of some of the world’s top racers will add an international flavour to the special atmosphere that the British Powerboat Festival creates as competitors and the public mix together in the streets, bars and restaurants.
